Biography

Dave Giles II engineers immersive and accessible experiences with audiovisual craftsmanship and empathy. Across 15 years of songwriting, production, and performing, Dave has leveraged this philosophy to compose globally-informed music from a localized perspective.

As half of the rap duo The Paxtons, Dave independently released five acclaimed EPs, toured nationally, and performed at SXSW and CMJ festivals from 2009 - 2012. After disbanding, Dave began collaborating on Chicago-influenced Deep House with producer Sam O.B., as Dave + Sam. Following the independent release of “You Da Shit Girl” in 2016, they caught the attention of New Math Recordings and released a sold-out vinyl EP with remixes by Derrick Carter & Seven Davis, Jr. That led to them signing with London's Defected Records and performing at the Essence and Defected Croatia festivals.

At the onset of the pandemic, the genre-defying duo released their anticipated debut album No Shade — packaging love, empowerment, and socio-political commentary into a collection of tracks that journey from deep Chicago house and otherworldly melodies to funk-laden jams and adventurous studio experimentation. Dave has since stepped from under Dave + Sam’s shadow; collaborating to release Locked In EP with Kill Your Heroes & Darius Syrossian on Snatch Records, Back Outside with Bad Colours, and Behind The Veil with Brisa on Bastard Jazz, Drip, and Work with Austin Ato on Classic Music Company, Possibly Impossible with Cor.ece & Crackazat, and most notably — Work with dance music icons, Honey Dijon & Mike
Dunn.

Since partnering with Defected Records, Dave’s songwriting catalog has amassed 3 million streams from 1 million listeners worldwide, resulting in radio play and chart placements in over 20 countries and placements in feature films, The Shuroo Process.
