Biography

Chicagoan, Dave Giles II provides vocals inspired by the intersection of Mike Dunn, Moodymann, Mos Def & Gil Scott Heron, alongside the deep-house arrangements and soulful progressions of New York multi-instrumentalist and DJ, Sam O.B.

Following the independent release of their 2016 debut “You Da Shit Girl” and its Whitney McGuire, Nelson Nance & Naima Ramos-Chapman (HBO's Random Acts of Flyness) helmed visual, they caught the attention of New Math Recordings and released the sold-out vinyl “You Da Shit Girl EP” with remixes by Derrick Carter & Seven Davis, Jr., culminating in a performance at the 2017 Essence Festival. Shortly thereafter, they signed with London's Defected Records, performed at their Defected Croatia festival in 2018, and at the top of 2019, released the vinyl-only “Middle Passage EP” on its imprint, Classic Music Company.

The genre-defying duo released their anticipated debut album ‘No Shade’ on Classic Music Company this spring, a thirteen-track narration of the 21st-century experience. With the aim to package love, empowerment, and socio-political commentary into a collection of tracks that never compromise on groove or soul, this enchanting album never loses sight of its message as it journeys from deep Chicago house and otherworldly melodies to funk-laden jams and adventurous studio experimentation.
