SkyBlu of LMFAO performed at the Latin Grammys on Thursday, rapping in English and shuffling to Mexican electronic dance group 3BallMTY’s hit “Intentalo.” Earlier, he revealed a “hush hush” plan to release some latin music in the future.
“I’m coming out with a Spanish song,” Blu said during a webcast of the arrivals on the Heineken green carpet. “It’s kind of hush hush right now, but I want to be somebody who brings a great song to the culture. I’m going to work on more songs with 3Ball MTY.”
Blu’s appearance came after a video mix posted on Youtube that put the video of Party Rock Anthem to 3Ball’s song was viewed by more than four million people.
With “Intentalo”, 3BallMTY defined the tribal sound that has gone from clubs in their native Monterrey to U.S. Latin radio, and has caught on throughout Latin America. They were named Best New Artist at the Latin Grammys, broadcast live by Univision from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
“The big difference between [the Latin Grammys and the Grammys] is that when I see people dancing [here] everyone’s dancing on beat,” SkyBlu observed during a green carpet interview with the Latin Grammys’ Kike Posada.
In September, SkyBlu’s uncle and partner in party-rocking, Redfoo, announced that LMFAO would being going on hiatus. “I feel like we’ve been doing this for so long, five or six years,” he said. “And we’re kind of like saying, well, let’s just do what’s natural and just kind of explore that, instead of like forcing it all the time.”
